Deep Creek Canyon

If you love to study fossils and rock formations Deep Creek is a great choice.  In the summers of 1966 and 1967 experts studied and identified fossil insects at Deep Creek Canyon.  The large basaltic rock formations sometimes create an erie mood.  Our family loves to take this hike because of the geology, wildlife, and history.  Below are some historical photos of Deep Creek Canyon (years, 1923-1926).

Mailing May

It is pleasure to read a piece of historical fiction that takes place in the Inland Northwest.  "Mailing May," written by Michael Tunnell is a wonderful story. On February 19, 1914 Charlotte May Pierstorff was mailed from Grangeville to Lewiston, Idaho.  Charlotte was sent as a "baby chick" for fifty-three cents.  My 4th grade students enjoyed this story.
